'Alternative Tools', emerged from a body of work that explored the concept of creating a female-based
technology.
Based on the premise that women weren't participating in technological
realms because they needed their own set of 'power tools'; I created a series
of hypothetical 'social tools' to enable the user to express their own range
of social and sexual power and construct a more habitable and creative social
space.
Later, I realised that these tools should be created for everyone. The resulting
steel sculptures (some with moving parts), don't have prescribed usage but
can potentially be used as projection devices to imagine new physical and
social environments.
